Developing the practice of Pausing is one of the most important ones of dream work. Pausing is the beginning of carving out space to receive a dream. When we runrunrunrunrun forward in our lives we reach only the destination of our expectations; when we Pause, choices appear. In the Pause, something new can bubble up. In Pause one reconnects with the ability to ponder. Pausing is creative.
Nature’s way is to Pause: seeds rest quietly until spurred by water and sun to grow; caterpillars climb into a cocoon to contemplate metamorphosis; trees retreat inwards and lower their sap to their bases in the winter to prepare for spring’s imaginative burst. Pausing is an innate biological process. The modern world we’ve created thwarts this internal wisdom with lights that create day for night, businesses that operate 24/7, vacations that are never truly taken because the smart phone is at hand. To Pause from this modern world is to step back into the intelligence of our biology; it is to step away from the expected and into the question mark of the dreaming.
In this vein I will be taking a Pause for the month of August. After writing and publishing a book and going on a book tour it is time for me to Pause to integrate what I’ve learned as well as to listen to the new stirrings of thoughts that are moving about inside me. I won’t be posting or messaging during this month, or even signing in, but will return the first of September to rejoin everyone, and to bring back to the Dreaming Community the new perspectives I’ve garnered in my Pause. Perhaps you’ll Pause as well…
Happy Dreaming!!
