Magic of the Ordinary: Recovering the Shamanic in Judaism, by Rabbi Gershon Winkler. This title leads one to believe it’s for Jews. Certainly, Jews will uncover new depths to their beliefs in reading this book. But for me this is a book for everyone who longs to remember that in our most common of moments, in the very environment in which we spend all 24 hours of each day, lies the miraculous. Miracles have to be looked for to be seen, and this book is a window into the how to do that. We can blow through our days waiting for a lightning bolt to transport us to an existence where we feel fulfilled and that we’ve touched God; or, we can sit quietly in our right now and feel the sensations of a breeze tickling our ear and hear the message of the wind… it’s a choice.
