For this Monday’s Book Nook it’s an “oldie but goodie” I pulled back off the shelf: Imagery and Healing: Shamanism and Modern Medicine, by Jeanne Achterberg.
For me, this really is a seminal work on the imagination and dreaming, and in particular the role of both in ancient medicine practices which laid foundation to today’s modern medical world (believe it or not). For this reason, I think it is important to follow Achterberg’s amazingly well-documented steps back through history to find how these influences shifted over time, as well as to see it’s resurgence today via some amazing studies on transformations in heart disease, cancer, skin infections, and other maladies using imagery techniques. At the bottom of it all is the knowledge that we hold within ourselves all the necessary keys for healing and transformation. That’s freedom. Enjoy!
