A People’s History of the United States: 1492 – Present, by Howard Zinn.
I talk a lot about dreaming being all-time. One of the ways this is so is that the principles of dreaming are ways of looking at all life, not just the images of our sleep. One of the principles is learning to see things from new perspectives.
This book – A People’s History of the United States – starts from the premise that history is told from a specific perspective (even agenda) and in both what it includes as well as what it omits it shapes cultural and viewpoints under the guise of solidity or “what things are”, but that this is, in fact, one perspective only; as such, A People’s History seeks to tell other perspectives and make more fluid what edited versions are considered fact. In accomplishing this amazing feat it asks a lot of wonderful – and difficult – questions; questions that, in the viewing of something as solid become non-existent. Simply asking questions brings into the conversation new perspectives. Asking questions is one of the great tools of living a dreaming life.
Enjoy – I’m still reading it (it’s 600+ pages) but I’m so riveted and so excited about it I had to post this right away!
