10 Questions for the Dalai Lama, documentary by filmmaker Rick Ray. This almost didn’t make it onto the Book Nook list simply because the film spends the first forty minutes narrated by Ray as he goes on a personal journey to prepare himself for meeting the Dalai Lama – personal info I didn’t really find necessary to hear. But he does describe the recent history of Tibet and Tibet-in-Exile during this time, so it was compelling enough to continue watching, and even filled in some date and fact gaps I had about it. Also, the time allowed me my own reflections of what questions I would ask the Dalai Lama, were I granted an interview of 10 questions only. And then, when the film finally came to the actual interview, I was completely engaged.
In all, I actually highly recommend this documentary, as the whole of it really was a complete experience. If for nothing else it is definitely worth watching to hear the Dalai Lama’s response to Mr. Ray’s question about the Middle East, and if there is any hope for future peace there. I’ll not give it away, but the words picnic and festivals both appeared in his answer, again reminding me how wonderfully profound, wise, and infinitely playful he is!
