I work with clients teaching them how to understand the language of their night dreams, and the messages the dreams have for them. We do this through a process called dream opening. But the first step in opening dreams is to remember your dreams!
I’m asked a lot how one can remember their dreams, and there is a very easy way to begin doing this.
First, go out and buy a blank journal that you are attracted to. Find one that you like a lot. Put the journal by your bed with a pen. You may want to have a little light next to it, also, or use a pen that has a light on it.
Before going to sleep turn to the first blank page and write that day’s date at the top. Then, write: Tonight I will have a clear dream and remember. Having set this intention, lay your pen on the page and go to sleep. When you wake up with your dream, write it immediately. It is best to do it as quickly as possible, and with as little movement as possible, so that you stay within the dream space and catch all of the details while they are still at the forefront.
When writing your dreams include every detail that you can remember, including colors, feelings, emotions, sounds, tastes and smells. Do it without self-editing. Even if the dream feels like only a snipit, or the only thing you catch is a feeling or a color, or the tail-end of a song, write it down. What may seem strange upon first awakening, or incomplete, will likely become illuminated after opening it. If you dismiss parts of a dream as something that doesn’t make sense and omit it from your journal then you will be cutting yourself from an important part of your dream.
Also, all of the dreams we have in one night are considered one dream. If you wake up in the middle of the night to write your dream, go back to sleep with the pen ready in the journal in case you dream again.
Once you begin to write your dreams and put more focus to them, you will find you will begin to remember dreams more and more, and dream more prolifically. This is because you have entered a dialogue with yourself. Our dreams are always communicating to us – the moment we engage with them we are in active conversation. And we all know that a conversation takes two – in this case it is you and You (or, your dreams).
Happy dreaming!
