Whoever you are, and wherever you are, you’ve probably at least once experienced being in Egypt – at least in the Jewish understanding of it. Egypt translates to The Narrows, or The Narrow Place. And tonight, with Passover, the Jews celebrate the escaping from it to get to the Promised Land. Further, we are taught to celebrate it as though it is happening right now, today. After all, who hasn’t felt at least once that they were living a colorless, 2-D version of themselves while knowing deep inside that there is the promise of a vivid, Technicolor, 3-D Self just waiting to emerge?
For all of us who have, or are, been hanging out in the restricted, narrowed thinking of Egypt it’s time to escape it to the unconfined wilderness that leads to our fullest-lived Selves. Ready?
Dreaming is the key. Our dreams are the passport, ticket and plane if we learn how to understand and heed their messages. Dreams are our inner language of experience. They tell us where we are, where we’re headed, and what our greatest potential expression of our Self is. If we follow their messages they will lead us on the path through the wilderness to our own Promised Land of the Self.
My friend Angela is a professional videographer and creative artist, and she graciously shot some videos of me talking about this work, which I am posting to the site weekly. At the end of the shoot she mentioned she had had a dream the night before and so we decided to do an impromptu dream opening to give everyone an idea of what a one-on-one dream opening is like. It’s exactly perfect for today, because it’s a dream about everything I’ve been writing about – leaping out of a parked (narrow) place into an expansive, better Self (promised land).
As you watch this video, listen for how the dream is telling where the narrow land is, showing the way out of it, and what the promised land will be.
Thank you, Angela!
