Every organization has a story. Story is the narrative that stitches together where you come from, who you are, and why you do what you do. This narrative is the thread connecting the hopes and emotional investments of the sweat of your work to your constituents, audience, and clients.
Often we assume our story is obvious. We expect it to be shared by everyone within in our organization, as well as reflected in our external message. However, far too often it is not. What is written in a mission statement, or an organization’s vision, rarely reflects the real story – the truth, value, and the emotional tenor of your dreams and contributions. It is this narrative blend of purpose and aspiration that brings you together as a group, and attracts you to those you hope to reach.
Story Openings ™ is a method for going deeper than the skeletal paragraphs of the mission statement. With Story Openings ™ you find the heart of your organization, and the answer to the question: Why we matter. Meaning is what creates cohesive teams – without it we become robots. And it is meaning that draws others to us, bridging us in more relevant ways with partners and clients.
Story Openings ™ is based on proven imagery and dream techniques combined with findings from my background in developing and teaching Master’s level courses in Cognitive Psychology and the Power of Image, Political and Media Psychology, and Transmedia Storytelling for Advocacy and Marketing.
